Best TV Horror to Watch this Spooky Season

American Horror Story

A new classic in the world of horror, this show follows a different horror theme each season with new characters and a new plot line. Even though it is a new story each season, the season’s crossover just a bit so watch from the beginning. There have been 9 seasons so far and themes are as follows: Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, and the most current, 1984. These seasons all are weird and have creepy villains throughout. It’s a great show to binge and feel unsettled this spooky season. 

Bates Motel

This show is based on Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and lasted 5 seasons. We follow a young Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore, and his mother Norma Bates, played by Vera Farmiga, as they move to White Pine Bay, a fictional Oregon coastal town. This show takes an interesting and modern spin on what may have happened to Norman Bates as a teenager and what lead up to the events in Psycho. This show will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder what will happen next in this messed up town. 

Stranger Things

Maybe not horror, but spooky at times, this show is a cult classic and if you haven’t seen it by now, you are definitely in the minority. Set in the 1980s, this show follows a cop, a distressed mom, and a group of teenagers as they take on monsters from an alternative universe. This show has it all: monsters, supernatural powers, cute kids, and Dungeons and Dragons. There are currently 3 seasons out and a 4th on the way, this show is sure to engulf you in all it’s glory and mystery. 

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Based on the Archie comic series of the same name, this show takes a new and dark spin on Sabrina the Teenage Witch we all grew up with. Following Sabrina Spellman, a young witch played by Kiernan Shipka, we see as she must learn how to balance her witch life with her human life. As the show goes on we learn that Sabrina is more than just a half-human half-witch. The first two parts are out now on Netflix and parts 3 and 4 are being filmed. It is a great drama to binge and will leave you guessing and wanting more and more. 

Scream Queens

The people of American Horror Story joined up again to make this show, but it is drastically different. Even though it is only two seasons, this show is so fun to watch and it does get kinda scary. The first season follows a sorority and their fight against someone who dressed in their college mascot, a devil, who is killing the girls off one by one. This show is star-packed and is not too serious. A good and quick show to binge, this show is engaging and keeps you wanting more. 

The X Files

A classic in horror and supernatural TV, this show has 11 seasons and two movies. The first 9 seasons shot in the 1990’s/2000’s and the last two shot in 2016 and 2018. This is a long show but is so fun to watch. Following Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as the work in the FBI’s X-File division, hunting the unexplained. This show will make you believe in aliens and make you not believe in the government and make you question what they are hiding. 

Castle Rock

This show is relatively new with only one season and the second on the way, this show is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. The first season was set around a man, played by Bill Skarsgard, who was found in the basement of Shawshank prison. The first couple of episodes are pretty slow, but once the supernatural stuff hits, the show picks up a lot and leaves you wanting to watch more and more to find out what is happening with this man and what he wants.
