Defeat Is No Big Deal For Soccer Season

The Smithville Boys Soccer teams had their first games last Tuesday, September 2 against Kearney. The JV team lost 2-0 and the Varsity team lost 2-1.

“The first half was excellent, the two teams were pretty equal. The second half we just wore out with chasing the ball a lot,” said James Watt, head JV coach.

Even with the loss, the team is feeling positive about the turnout of the games.

“Last year against Kearney we didn’t play the best, and this year we looked really good and we were controlling the game,” said Liam Wolfe, senior varsity player.

The JV boys are all fairly new to the high school team, mainly freshmen and sophomores but that isn’t stopping a close team from forming.

“We have good chemistry and we communicate well,” said Dan Ngyuen, senior JV player.

Both teams are working hard this year and hoping for a successful season.

“I’m really proud of the team and all the hard work we’ve put in at practice and I can’t wait to see how the year turns out,” said Wolfe.
