Really Bad Horror Movies to Laugh at

By: Amanda Holt

Jason X

With 19% on Rotten Tomatoes, this 10th installment of Friday the 13th is considered one of the worst horror movies of all time. We follow a group of teens on a spaceship in 2455 as they are leaving earth having picked up a frozen Jason. It is a typical Friday the 13th movie but now it’s in space and nothing else really happens. A combination of bad acting and generic storyline it’s a wonder how it made $16.9 million at the US box office.

The Happening

This M. Night Shyamalan film received a whopping 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. We follow a man, a woman, and a child as they fight off killer trees. Yes, in this film the trees are killing humans. We’ve seen Alfred Hitchcock successful make birds horror villains so it wasn’t the trees that make this movie so awful. What Shyamalan failed to do was make a good script, good acting, and make a coherent plot line. This movie is 50% laughs, 50% confusion, and 0% scary.

American Poltergeist

This film is not known well enough to have a Rotten Tomatoes score, but it gets 2.1/10 stars on IMDB. This movie is not well known and for good reasons. With absolutely no relation to the Poltergeist movies we all know, this film follows a very boring group of teens in a very boring haunted house. This is a low budget film but it costs $0 to have a good plot. The effects and main ghosts are pretty laughable as well. Overall this movie sucks but it is a must-see.

The Open House

23% on Rotten Tomatoes and starring the one kid from 13 Reasons Why this movie is terrible. This movie makes no sense and the killer is boring. We follow a mom and son as they stay in their family member’s house that they are selling. So they have to leave for open houses every day. Pretty confusing. The idea of someone getting into your house because of an open house is cool, but there were a lot of plot points that meant nothing in the end, plus the end made no sense and left a lot of questions unanswered, but honestly, I didn’t care for them to be answered anyway.

Rated 3.7/10 stars on IMDB, this movie makes millenials look stupid. We follow a group of teens as they go to LA for a trip. While there they meet someone in a cult and it’s a Satanic one and they get involved because they are all self-centered and awful. The characters are so bratty you want these people to sacrifice them. It also makes Satanic rituals look dumb and honestly, it’s just an excuse to show some female nudity. Maybe this one isn’t laughable maybe it’s just a waste of time.
