Scholar bowl season begins for all levels

All scholar bowl team members attended their first tournament of the season this past Saturday, December 1. The tournament was open to both varsity and junior varsity competitors, with teams coming from several local high schools.

Students were expected to begin competing at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, finishing their rounds at around 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon at Lee Summit North High School. Being the only tournament until January, all team members were invited to attend. The JV and varsity teams competed in five matches throughout the day, respectively.

“We did pretty well as a team,” said freshman team member Joseph Sanders. “I did better than I thought I would.”

Though he is only a freshman, this will be Sander’s third year competing in scholar bowl for the Smithville school district. “It was hard because we were going against sophomores, but I feel like we did well, given the circumstances.”

The team’s next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 19th, and it will be hosted by the Smithville scholar bowl team at SHS.
